The National Botanical Garden (NBG), Godawari, Lalitpur is established in 1962 AD. This botanical garden is a center for conservation, education and research on plant resources. It conserves more than 850 species of living plants. It spreads over an area of 82 ha.of varying topography, among which 40 ha. has been developed into various garden units like Physic garden, Biodiversity Education Garden, Rock Garden, Taxonomic Family Garden, Rare and Endangered Plant Conservation Garden, VVIP Plantation Garden. It is surrounded by natural evergreen forest dominated by Schima-Castanospsis and Alnus. A natural stream i.e. Godawari stream is running from the center of this garden which increases the beauty of the garden and attracts visitors.
It is situated about 16 km south east from central Kathmandu and about 12 Km far from the Lagankhel bus park, Lalitpur. This botanical garden is one of the center office of Department of Plant Resources (DPR) Thapathali, Kathmandu, Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation. It is an internationally recognized botanical garden and one of the member of Botanical Garden Conservation International (BGCI). General people, Researchers and Students (school, college & universities) from the different parts of Nepal and foreign countries visited the garden for the purpose of education, research and recreation.
Opening time With the provision of entry fee, this botanical garden opens daily from 9.30 AM to 4.00 PM during the month of 16th Kartik to 15th Magh (November to January) and from 9.30 AM to 5.00 PM for rest of the months.entrance fee
